The Road to Net-Zero

Our Commitment to Sustainability

At the Quechee Balloon Festival, we’re committed to making Vermont’s skies a little greener—not just with hot air balloons, but with smart, sustainable choices on the ground. As one of the region’s most beloved annual events, we’re taking bold steps to reduce our environmental impact and promote a cleaner future for our community. Here’s how we’re working toward a more sustainable festival experience

Zero-Waste Goal

We’re actively working to reduce waste across the festival grounds. From compostable food containers and utensils to clearly labeled recycling and compost stations, we’re asking everyone—vendors and visitors alike—to help us divert as much waste from the landfill as possible. Our goal is to make the Quechee Balloon Festival a zero-waste event in the coming years.

Recycling

Look for the marked bins! We’re partering with the Department of Enviromental Conservation, Casella Waste, and the White River NRCD to provide recycling, and food scrap composting to reduce festival waste.

Travel Smarter

To reduce vehicle traffic and cut emissions, we’re putting a spotlight on mass transit and shuttle options for 2025. Festivalgoers have more sustainable ways than ever to get to the event

Amtrak’s Vermonter Line – Arrive in nearby White River Junction and connect to the festival via bike or rideshare.

  • Dartmouth Coach – Direct service from Boston and NYC. Stop in Lebanon and Hanover, then rideshare to the festival.
  • Advance Transit – Free local bus service linking towns across the Upper Valley, with stops within bike distance of the festival.
  • The MOOver – This fare-free shuttle service covers much of the region and is a great low-impact way to get around.
