Scott grew up surrounded by ballooning, following in the footsteps of his father, Jim Griswold, who began flying in 1978—the year before Scott was born.

At 14, Scott began training as a pilot under the guidance of his older brother, Peter. Today, both Scott and Peter are commercial balloon pilots, with over 50 years of combined piloting experience.
