Rich Hamilton is a commercial balloon pilot from Poughkeepsie, New York. His journey into ballooning began as a spectator alongside his wife, Lori, and their daughters, Sarah and Brittany. It all started when Rich booked a flight for Lori with a local pilot—an experience that sparked a family-wide passion for ballooning.

Eager to get more involved, the Hamiltons began attending festivals and crewing for any pilots in need. Along the way, they formed a lasting friendship with pilot Ken Shumate from Florida, who mentored Rich and helped him transition from a spectator to a student pilot. Before long, the family purchased a used balloon, and Rich earned his pilot’s certificate.

Ballooning remains a cherished family tradition. Now, their daughters bring their own families to join in the adventure, with grandchildren Bryce, Bailey, Jordan, and Maddy developing their own love for balloons.
